The Gemstone
He was small and unimportant -
Just dirt upon the ground
Where he sat alone and waited,
And dreamed of being found.
He’d been cast aside to shadows,
In hidden places underneath
Still he hoped for something new,
For a life without the grief.
When the waters came to carry him
Hard times went from bad to worse
He fought with all his might against
The cold and heartless curse.
The waves tossed and then they tumbled -
Harshly throwing him aside.
But he couldn’t understand why he’d
Been chosen for this time.
He strained to see a light ahead.
It seemed that all was lost,
Until one day when up upon
The shorelines he was tossed.
His hardness had been washed away -
A brightness in its place.
And suddenly he came to see
Those storms were no mistake.
They’d came to reveal his victory
They’d came to show his worth.
They removed from him the ways of old
And gave to him new birth.
While he lay afresh amongst the sand
Understanding all that’d passed
A Hand reached down and picked him up
And rescued him at last.
It took him in and held him close
The love radiating through
You see, dear one, you are My gem...
I’ve always been here for you.
